I haven’t been posting regularly and I really don’t know why. I will set up a schedule please bear with me, I’m sorry.
Today I’m going to be talking about The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Turner. There will be a proper review for this but I’ve not finished the series yet and I’m extremely excited about it so this is merely an excuse to talk about something I love.
The king’s scholar, the magus, believes he knows the site of an ancient treasure. To attain it for his king, he needs a skillful thief, and he selects Gen from the king’s prison. The magus is interested only in the thief’s abilities.
What Gen is interested in is anyone’s guess. Their journey toward the treasure is both dangerous and difficult, lightened only imperceptibly by the tales they tell of the old gods and goddesses.
My best friend bought the whole series and finished the first book. She loved it and so naturally forced me into reading it too. So I did.
I didn’t like it at first. I thought the writing was amateurish, the protagonist was lazy and the plot was predictable.
But then I finished it and read the second book. Every doubt I’d ever had about the working of this plot was gone. The writing was so much better, the characters changed drastically, the plot was one of the best I’ve ever read and all in all I understood the hype over this book.
Needless to say, I finished it in a day and moved on. I’m currently on the fourth book and it shows no signs of slowing down. I love this series. I love Eugenides and I love Megan Turner for writing something so amazing.
If you felt so so about this book like I did, read the second one. It will change your mind and trust me, you’ll fall in love with the series.
